Next in our series of #INEED 2024 speakers, we will cover Daniel Thompson’s presentation from Window Insulation Ltd. Windows Insulation Ltd. helps businesses to conserve energy by installing high-performance nanotech insulation.
In this blog, we will cover the three main products offered by Window Insulation Ltd., including the energy management solutions they offer to businesses and public services, and the benefits that they provide.
Daniel Thompson began by outlining the main issues facing the insulation sector:
Window Insulation Ltd’s proposed solution is to retrofit buildings to save energy, money and carbon, and repurposing materials and equipment. Daniel described how rapid design and evaluation of proposals for deployment will be necessary to meet government demands, while building confidence with independently accredited materials and ensuring minimal disruption to businesses and public services.
In his presentation, Daniel Thompson outlined Window Insulation Ltd’s three main products and included some examples of case studies. These include:
Window Insulation’s retrofit application is a patented nanotech coating, used over 37 countries for over 20 years.

Product 2: Max Insulation
Max Insulation is covered by 54 patents, and has been proven for 30 years. It is a liquid ceramic insulation developed for use on the exterior of buildings. Daniel gave some context to the development of Max Insulation - 4 out of 5 insulation materials commonly used, such as Rockwool or mineral wool, are plastic based, making them highly flammable.
Windows Insulation Ltd carried out testing on a house in Nottingham, UK. They found that to get the same level of insulation, 80mm of Rockwool would have to be installed, compared to just 2mm of Max Insulation. Max Insulation is also easier to install than Rockwool, as Max Insulation only needs to be painted, instead of rendering.
Max Insulation can also be used to reduce heat in shipping containers by reducing the interior temperature by up to 27%, helping to avoid shutdowns. As such, Windows Insulation Ltd. is now in discussions with ZPN Energy, who hope to use this product on their ZPN Energy containers.

Product 3: Solar Panel Coating
Window Insulation Ltd’s Solar Panel Coating is a patented coating to enhance solar panels. Over 10,000,000m² has been installed globally to date.
Daniel described that one significant issue with solar panels is that they get dirty, and can be difficult to clean when installed on rooftops. This makes them highly inefficient, losing up to 30% of their energy output. In fact, of the 1.5M houses with solar panel array, their £1000 energy contribution can fall to just £700 if they are only cleaned once every three months.
However, Window Insulation Ltd’s solar panel coating improved panel efficiency by 20-30%, saving up to £350 a year in total. This gives an overall £1,050 energy contribution compared to just £1,000.
